TJCAEA Fall Meeting

September 12, 2007

Meeting called to order by Chairman Barry Jones at 8:30 pm.

Attendance: Barry Jones, Jeannie Lafferty, Mark Robinson, Charles Nunnally , Royce Granberry, Ralph Ward, Doug Pierce, Bob Young

Minutes presented and approved.

Scholarship discussion-funding is available for 2008

Membership discussion-need to update website with current dues-paying members.

      Review of possible member schools to contact-Panola, Paris, NTCC

Report of TJCAA officers-desire to become more active statewide; really serve a purpose

Report by Barry about TCCTA Convention in Dallas February 21-23, 2008. Barry serves as Agriculture Chairman and he encouraged all to attend if possible.

State Advisor duties:

     2007-08---HCC
     2008-09---Odessa
     2009-10---TVCC
     2010-11---TJC

Fall meeting planned for Odessa College, September 11-12, 2008

Belt buckle report by Jeannie: checked with Creative Awards, who would build a buckle for $125. TJCAEA will provide each State officer $100 for purchase.

State Officer discussion

     Jeannie suggested possible workshop at convention to promote comradery. (Webster says this is correct spelling)?

     Officer elections: possible quiz and interview, in addition to popular vote.

     Motion made by Jeannie and seconded by Royce to conduct elections by adult or faculty committee, along with      

     delegate popular vote. Committee vote will override popular vote if necessary. Motion passed.

Scholarship qualifications of outstanding Students discussion:

     Must transfer to university in Texas the following fall after receiving the award.

     Successfully complete minimum of 12 academic semester hours with at least a 2.5 GPA each semester at university.

     Must be an agriculture major at the university.

     Not required to have graduated from a Texas high school.

     Must be Junior College 2nd year student with minimum of 30 academic hours completed to be eligible.

     Stipend will pass to next student if winner does not enroll in a Texas university.

     Doug made motion; Charles seconded it. Motion passed.

Discussion to make Barry continue as TJCAEA Chairman. After him, possibly Charles Nunnally.
